How To Choose Solar Street Light?

When we will choose the solar street light, we will consider many factors, such as batteries, solar panel, light source, control types, sensor, housing, installation, and so on.

For batteries, we can choose a Lead-acid battery, it is a rechargeable battery and use in widely place, low-cost, and recycle, but the disadvantage is large and heavy, doesn’t fast charge.

Lithium battery: It is metallic lithium as an anode, it uses in little electric, for example, mobile, cameras, laptop, and other electric devices, it also uses in big products, for use in electric cars and solar street light, and the best advantage is extremely reliable.

However, we usually use a lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4 battery) on our area lightings, and LiFePO4 battery as the cathode material, and a graphitic carbon electrode with a metallic backing as the anode. 

Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH): It is a type of rechargeable battery, the chemical reaction at the positive electrode is similar to that of the nickel-cadmium cell(NiCD), with both using nickel oxide hydroxide(NiOOH), and the capacity is two-three times of lithium capacity.

Solar panel: Each panel comes with different power output, and we are normal wattage is 20w-100w of power, if panels with high voltage, it will very effective and efficient, so it will have more and more expensive.

Light source: It is the core component of the led lightings, because, without it, there are no lights, so it can not play the effect of lighting, it is energy-saving led, more practical.

We have two types of controllers in the market, it is Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) and Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT), they each have their advantages.

Pulse Width Modulation(PWM), is a method of reducing the average power delivered by an electrical signal, by effectively chopping it up into discrete parts.

PowerPoint Tracking(MPPT), is a technique used with sources with variable power to maximize energy extraction under all conditions.

Sensor: Simply talk, it will detect events changes, but the two most commonly used for street light lamps are Dusk To Dawn Sensor(Photocells) and Motion Detector(Motion Sensor).

Dusk To Dawn Sensor(Photocells), will turn on and off by the amount of the light reaching, when the day, the led will automatically turn off, when the night, the led will automatically turn on. So that reduces waste power. But have a defect is when the rainy day, it doesn’t better control.

Motion Detector(Motion Sensor) uses one or multiple technologies to detect movement in an area. It will turn on when a car or pedestrian goes through, is no activity in the area, the light will automatically adjust the light level to a minimum.

Housing: Most people will use waterproof and anti-corrosion with long lifespan die-casting aluminum alloy that protects our led light.

Installation: No need to lay cables, easy installation.
